WHED DO YOU WANT TO PAY YOUR TAXES
When do you want to pay your taxes?
My answer to that question is, of course, after I am dead! Think about it, we have this sacred cow in the United States that no one ever seems to talk about. That is the right to leave your money to any person, place or thing that suits your fancy. Dead people don't need money and for the most part the heirs don't deserve it. It is money they did nothing to earn. Frequently it is misused by the ungrateful recipients. I have heard or read that there is more than enough money left by people who die intestate to more than run the federal, state and local governments in the United States. So here are some of my proposals:
1. Allow people to name in their wills only those that they claimed, or could have claimed as dependents or spouses on their last Federal Tax return or non dependent natural children who, until they reached maturity were claimed as dependents. Decedents could leave up to 10% of their remaining estate to qualifying charities. Limit the value of the estate left by any decedent to a dependent to one million dollars. Spouses could receive half the estate plus one million dollars. Guidelines for automatic disbursements to the qualifying people could be allowed for in the case of those who died intestate.
2. All other money, real and personal property left in decedents estates would revert to the government.
3. Limit the scope and nature of trusts so they could not be used to subvert the tax laws.
4. Provide a constitutional amendment prohibiting any governmental body from owning real property. The governments would have to dispose of real property by public auction, the government would be obligated to finance this property for thirty years at 3% simple interest. They could record restrictions on the property guarantying that it could be used for only certain purposes. This would protect our military bases, national parks, forests and other public lands. The one exception to this rule would be public roads. The governments would have to lease all other real property that they require from the owners. A board of equity could be established to insure fairness of rents paid for land that could be used for no other than military purposes.
4. Amend the Constitution of the United States to permanently abolish all other forms of taxation.
5. The government would be required to disburse all surplus money collected to the citizens.
A person may feel that it is unfair that he can not leave his vast fortune to his heirs as he chooses but consider that a young person with no tax obligations has the opportunity to make and keep his own fortune. We would all be a lot happier people if there were no sales, property, income or any other taxes to worry about. I know I would.
