TEXT 1962
Text for 1962
I guess the biggest thing that happened in 1962 was that Art and Myrtle Got back together after being separated for 16 years. They rented a small Duplex Apartment in Lancaster. Art got a job with the surplus store in Lancaster that he seemed to enjoy. Art and Myrtle seemed really happy together. They would stop by our house on occasion and play a few games of 500. Art was not supposed to be drinking but he had bottles stashed all around in our house so he could sneak drinks. We would come across one of them once in a while but just let it be.
I was still on the Sheriff's Department, working at Mira Loma, only now I was working the evening shift in the TB section. La Vonne was still working at Edwards AFB. I was still able to draw the G.I. Bill for going to Antelope Valley College but they told me that I would have to go to a four year college the next year or they would quit paying my monthly stipend.
Steve celebrated his fifth birthday in April. We had a birthday party for Art at Jane Reynolds Park in Lancaster in July. I think he turned 63.
In March La Vonne, Steve and I took a couple weeks leave and drove down to Guadalajara and back. We enjoyed the Mexican Vacation a lot. I don't even remember what car we had at that time. I was still using Luther's Rambler as a second car but we would not have taken that. I think that was about the time that we had a green 58 Studebaker station wagon because I can remember loading that thing up for our camping trips to Crystal Lake which was only a couple hours from Lancaster.
On one occasion along about 1962 we made a camping trip to Yosemite National Park and camped out in our tent for about a week.
